About Us

Dave Parker of Kimberley's Photo West graduated from Humber College's Creative Photography program in 1981. Shortly after graduation Dave photographed a space shuttle launch and wrote an article to accompany the photographs for Photo Life magazine. Upon returning to Toronto, Dave operated a commercial photography studio in downtown Toronto for two years before moving to Calgary. During his time in Calgary, Dave photographed mainly stock images which were sold through a stock house based in Edmonton. In 1991 when Dave was looking to relocate to a smaller location the dart landed on Kimberley in the south east region of British Columbia. An ideal small town of about 6500 people and a short four hour drive to Calgary. Shortly after arriving in Kimberley, Dave created Kimberley's Photo West due to in part a lack of professional photographers in the area. Initially wedding photography was about 80% of the business with sports and commercial taking the remainder. Now wedding and commercial are evenly split with stock taking a greater percentage which makes the business more stable and keep Dave creatively inspired. In 2005 Kimberley's Photo West went completely digital in capture.
